Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is collected, used, shared, and protected when you visit or use Versehaven.

Effective September 29, 2026

1. Scope and responsibility

This Policy applies to the Versehaven website, account services, public demo, study space, and related communications. It does not govern third-party websites, source repositories, or services that publish their own privacy notices.

The operator identified in the service is responsible for Versehaven's processing of personal information. Third-party providers act under their own roles and obligations where they determine how they process information.

2. Information we process

The information processed depends on which features you use:

  • Account information, including your name, email address, verification status, authentication credentials, sessions, and password-reset or verification records.
  • Study information you choose to create, including notes, bookmarks, highlights, prayer activity, reading history, and edition preferences.
  • Research questions, selected passage context, retrieved source excerpts, and AI-assisted answers when you choose those features.
  • Purchase and access records, including your email, plan, payment provider, checkout and transaction identifiers, payment status, paid period, refunds, reversals, and disputes. Payment providers process full card or bank credentials; Versehaven does not store them in its application database.
  • Technical and security information, such as IP address, request details, browser or device information supplied with a request, timestamps, and records needed to prevent abuse and diagnose failures.

3. How and why we use information

We use information to create and secure accounts; verify email addresses; provide the public demo and study tools; save your work; maintain access entitlements; process and reconcile purchases; answer support requests; send essential account messages; prevent fraud and abuse; diagnose problems; comply with law; and improve reliability and usability.

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely as applicable on performance of our agreement with you, compliance with legal obligations, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, and consent where a feature or local law requires it. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

4. Cookies and local device storage

Versehaven uses an essential session cookie to keep you signed in and protect account access. The study space also uses browser local storage, associated with your account, for reading-history cache and Bible-edition preference. You can clear this storage through your browser, but doing so may sign you out or reset local preferences.

The current service does not use advertising cookies or third-party behavioral analytics. If that changes, this Policy and any consent controls required by law will be updated before those technologies are used.

5. AI-assisted research

When you request an AI-assisted answer, Versehaven sends your question, selected passage context, instructions, and a bounded set of retrieved library excerpts to the configured AI provider. Local source search does not require an AI provider. The application does not use research questions to train its own model or store a conversation history in its database.

Do not include confidential information or sensitive personal information in a research question unless it is necessary. The AI provider may process submitted content under its own privacy and retention terms.

6. When information is shared

We disclose only the information needed for the relevant purpose to:

  • hosting and database providers that run and secure the service;
  • an email-delivery provider for verification, password reset, and essential account messages;
  • a checkout or payment provider when purchases are enabled;
  • the configured AI provider only when you request an AI-assisted answer; and
  • authorities, advisers, or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or complete a business reorganization with appropriate safeguards.

Versehaven does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

7. Retention

We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this Policy. Account and study records are generally kept while your account remains active. Purchase, entitlement, refund, dispute, fraud-prevention, and security records may be kept longer where necessary for reconciliation, tax, accounting, legal claims, or protection against a reversed transaction. Backup copies may remain for a limited period before deletion. Data may be anonymized when it is no longer needed in identifiable form.

8. Security

Versehaven uses measures designed to protect personal information, including verified accounts, server-side access controls, restricted trusted origins for sensitive changes, rate limits, encrypted production transport, and separation of server credentials from the browser. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a unique password and notify us if you suspect unauthorized account access.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know about and access personal information, correct it, request deletion or portability, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and complain to a data-protection authority. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where law or a valid exception requires it.

Submit a privacy request through the support channel identified in the service. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

10. International transfers

Versehaven and its providers may process information outside your country. Where required, transfers use recognized safeguards such as adequacy decisions, contractual protections, or another lawful transfer mechanism. Provider locations depend on the infrastructure, email, payment, and AI services configured for the production service.

11. Children's privacy

Versehaven is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information. If local law requires a higher age for independent consent, a parent or legal guardian must authorize use. If you believe a child provided information without valid permission, contact us so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this Policy when the service, providers, or law changes. We will post the revised version and change the effective date. If a change materially affects your privacy rights, we will provide reasonable notice before it takes effect where required.

Questions, complaints, and privacy requests may be sent through the support channel identified in the service. The operator's legal identity and contact details shown there apply to this Policy.
