SOURCE PROVENANCE
Sources & licenses
Every published text, historical work, and language dataset in Versehaven keeps its own identity. This page records where each one came from, what changed, and the rights that apply.

LANGUAGE & CONTEXT
Original-language and study data
These datasets are separate study layers. They are not silently merged into a Bible edition, and no model generates their words, morphology, identities, or dictionary entries.
ORIGINAL-LANGUAGE TEXT
STEP Bible TAHOT & TAGNT
Pinned STEP Bible data supplies selected Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek words with source English glosses, transliteration, and morphology. It is an independent layer, not a word-by-word alignment to WEB.
- Rights
- CC BY 4.0
LEXICON
Open Scriptures Hebrew Lexicon
Hebrew definitions from the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible Project and Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary, pinned by source revision and linked to STEP identifiers.
- Rights
- CC BY 4.0; underlying Strong text public domain
LEXICON
STEPBible TFLSJ
An edited full LSJ Greek lexicon. Full definitions are kept distinct from short contextual STEP token glosses and retain named bibliography where supplied.
- Rights
- CC BY 4.0
PEOPLE & PLACES
STEPBible TIPNR
People, places, classifications, relationships, and source reference groups. 17,090 Claude 3 narrative rows from the source are withheld because they were not independently verified.

PUBLIC DEMO
Sources in the public sample
The demo displays WEB Genesis 1:1-4 from the real chapter, a separate STEP Hebrew sample for Genesis 1:1-3, Open Scriptures definitions for H7225 and H7307 with occurrence samples, and three credited library excerpts. It is read-only and uses no AI. Full content still requires access.

EDITORIAL METHOD
What we preserve
Provenance is part of the product, not a footnote added after publication.
- No machine output is labeled as a published Bible translation, historical work, or source-language dataset.
- Imports normalize markup and build stable indexes, but do not silently translate or rewrite source text.
- Public-domain claims apply to the identified edition and jurisdiction described here, not automatically to every edition of the same work.
- A valid AI citation identifier confirms which source was retrieved; it does not by itself prove that the source supports every generated claim.
- Source search uses local passage links and work or entry titles and metadata, then reads selected excerpts. It is not a global semantic search of every library text, and a missing result does not prove that no relevant source exists.
- AI-assisted research is optional and requires a configured provider. Without one, Versehaven reports that generation is unavailable rather than inventing an answer; local source search remains available.
- STEP original-language tokens, contextual glosses, lexical definitions, and occurrence references remain separate from the selected published Bible edition. The Hebrew sample is not word-aligned to WEB.
